About This Dashboard

This dashboard is designed to provide you with an at-a-glance view of a single market. This is a popular dashboard to schedule as a monthly email for a view of top-line metrics down to the top 200 brands within your subscribed categories.

When / How to use this dashboard

This dashboard will answer the question, ‘How are my subscribed categories performing within this market?’ This dashboard will help you compare sales, units, volume, top brands, and more across multiple categories for a single market at a glance. All of the graphs and charts include data for the time period you select in the date range filter, where available, and include the following visualizations:

Total Market Size

Use the Total Market Size graph to see the combined size of your subscribed categories over the time period you select. Dollar sales levels are displayed on the vertical axis and the date range is displayed across the horizontal axis. Hover over any point on the line to take a reading of sales volume for a particular month.

Note: The small month of May 2019 is due to our filters using ‘is in the last.’ Our data is reported in real time and your date range will impact the visualizations. If you’d like tidy graphs we recommend using ‘complete’ time frames (shown below) or selecting a custom date range.

Total Unit and AIP

The Total Units and AIP chart show a vertical bar for each month in your selected date range along with a line indicating the average item price (AIP). Use this chart along with the market size graph to check for a correlation between sales and unit volume. Hover your mouse over any bar or point on the AIP line to see further detail. The left axis shows the Total Units Sold and the right axis shows the Average Item Price. Comparing sales on the left to units and AIP on the right will help you see how these high-level metrics influence each other.

Year over Year Monthly Growth

Year Over Year Monthly Growth will address the question of how any full month compares to the same month from a year ago. The vertical bars represent totals for the categories in your subscription. Total Dollar Sales are shown on the left vertical axis, and you can also hover over any bar to see exact sales totals for the month and year of your choice. The arrows represent the percentage growth for the months in comparison. Values over 100 reflect positive growth and will also show as a taller bar, and values under 100% reflect negative growth and will display as a shorter bar than the one to its left.

Total Sales by Category & Total Units by Category

Total Sales by Category & Total Units by Category allow you to answer a number of interesting questions at once. The Total Sales by Category chart shows each subscribed category in a color-coded section by month, and the categories are stacked vertically. Notice the name of the month along the horizontal axis and the color coding for each category on the right. Here we see sales of almost every category expanding in March of ‘20. On the right, we can see the same chart with the same categories and color coding, only we’re comparing unit volumes rather than sales. Where the chart on the left shows Flower (in red) dominating sales of all categories, the less expensive Pre-Roll category is almost equal in unit volume in the Total Units By Category on the right. Hover over any section on either chart to see specific details.

Average Item Price & Average Item Price by Category

  • Average Item Price, also known as Average Selling Price, is the average price for items in all categories in your subscription, graphed over the time frame specified in your Date Range filter. The Average Unit Cost is the average cost accrued by the retailer for the same products. This chart shows you how these two values are moving together over time. In the graph below, prices rose faster than costs between February and March of ’20.
  • Average Item Price by Category takes the blue line from the Average Item Price and breaks it into separate lines representing the categories in your subscription. How do the different categories in your subscription contribute to the Average Item Price overall? Is one category pulling the average down or are several categories moving up in tandem? The graph addresses these questions.

Sales and Unit Volume by Category

Sales and Unit Volume by Category combine Average Item Price with Total Sales and Unit Volume over the date range selected in the Date Range filter and display them for easy comparison. How do these variables relate to each other? And, is there a relationship between say, Unit Volume and Average Item Price? Total sales are displayed along the left, category names are shown along the bottom, and total units along the right. Hover over any vertical bar to see further detail. To compare a subset of these variables, disable one or more by clicking on it in the legend at the bottom.

New Products Last 90 Days

New Products Last 90 Days shows the number of new products introduced into each of your subscribed categories over the last 90 days. There’s much more data in the 'New Products' dashboard on this topic, but here one can get a sense of how many competing products have come to market in each subscribed category.

Market Share by Brand Rank

Market Share By Brand Rank shows how sales are distributed across the brands of various brand rankings. The graph below shows the top 5 brands combining for roughly 245 million dollars over the previous 365 days (our Date Range filter setting). Compare the height of the vertical bar to the Total Sales axis on the left. The dot in each of the Brand Rank levels can be measured against the right vertical axis. So our top 5 brands are averaging 49 million dollars in sales over the last 365 days. Hover over the vertical bars or dots to see the exact values. What we see below is the average falls off quickly after the top 5 brands. In this case, brands 50 to 99 are competing for a total of 228 million and an average of only 4.6 million. This graph represents only your subscribed categories.

Top 200 Brands

What brands are in each of the brand ranks? The answer is in the Top 200 Brands table. It shows sales for the recent quarter by most recently closed month. You’ll see total sales by month, month-over-month change in ranking, and year-over-year change in rank. Dollar values are in US dollars for US states and Canadian dollars for Canadian provinces.
